- Frequently Asked Questions About GoldMine
-
-
- What makes GoldMine different?
-
- GoldMine was designed as an enterprise-wide business solution-whether
- addressing the needs of an entire organization or those of an individual.
- GoldMine was originally developed to enable users to both effectively manage
- and share business-critical information on contacts. As a result, GoldMine
- has unique, workgroup features unavailable in other popular single-user
- contact managers and PIMs, or in programs that were initially designed for
- standalone users and later modified to work in a networked environment.
-
-
- What does GoldMine do?
-
- GoldMine integrates the functions of contact management, day and time
- planning, document management, sales automation, group calendaring, database
- design and e-mail messaging to track and manage all of your information
- needs.
-
- While most professionals have upgraded from cumbersome paper filing systems
- to PC-based ones-replacing the Rolodex with a database, exchanging the office
- correspondence and client file cabinet with a word processor, substituting a
- scheduling program for the desk calendar and moving from Post-It Notes to
- e-mail for internal messaging-these solutions have an inherent flaw: there
- is no central source that ties together all contact-related information.
- Further, there is no way for users to easily access and share contact data.
-
- GoldMine provides an elegant solution by logically centralizing recorded
- communications and activities for all of an organization's contacts. GoldMine
- allows a user to track, not only what he/she says and does with regard to a
- contact, but also what anyone else in their organization says and does.
- By facilitating communications and managing information needs within an
- organization, GoldMine enables the individual users located across networked
- offices and in the field to effectively work together as a team.
-
-
- Who can use GoldMine?
-
- GoldMine was designed so that its workgroup features would be transparent
- to standalone users. GoldMine contains all of the features found in the other
- popular single-user contact managers and PIMs, plus a unique variety of sales
- automation, marketing analysis, productivity gauging and telemarketing tools.
- This makes GoldMine an outstanding fit for the individual user that manages
- everything from their own desktop PC or notebook.
-
-
- What about platforms?
-
- GoldMine is available in both DOS and Windows versions. GoldMine's DOS and
- Windows products offer the same groupware and sales automation capabilities.
- Full file compatibility between DOS, Windows and Windows 95 provides seamless
- updating, as well as mixed PC support on network or with distributed
- notebooks.
-
-
- Can I use GoldMine on a notebook?
-
- Yes! GoldMine is perfect for notebooks. GoldMine even has Intelligent Remote
- Synchronization, allowing remote users to synchronize changes between various
- GoldMine systems. Remote Synchronization via modem chronologically merges
- data at the field level to combine separate changes made to the same record.
- Added utility is provided by the full keyboard support of both DOS and
- Windows products.
-
-
- Can I use existing word processors?
-
- GoldMine for DOS, Windows, and Windows 95 directly interface with many of the
- more popular word processors including Microsoft Word, WordPerfect and
- AmiPro. Direct merges are available in DOS with the use of batch files and
- the word processors' merge functions. GoldMine for Windows relies on DDE to
- create links to the target word processors, directly merging data to produce
- the desired forms.
-
-
- In what language is GoldMine written?
-
- GoldMine for Windows is written in C++, a native Windows compiler.
- GoldMine for DOS is written in Clipper, a database engine based on the
- Xbase or dBase file structure. Additionally, all GoldMine files are
- accessible from other applications because GoldMine is based on the standard
- dBase format.
-
-
- Which accounting programs interface with GoldMine?
-
- GoldMine for Windows may be integrated with Macola, MAS90, and SBT. GoldMine
- for DOS may be integrated with any Clipper-compiled accounting software.
